Overview of the NSF Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure and its current programs and investments

NSF's Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure (OAC) seeks to foster the advanced cyberinfrastructure that is critical to the advancement of all areas of science and engineering research and education. This talk will present an overview of OAC and its programs and investments, especially in the areas of  trustworthy, reusable and sustainable community software for science and engineering; robust and reusable data tools to aid all research communities in their management and use of digital information and for learning and workforce development to enable the productive use, sustainable maintenance, and effective governance of the computing systems. I will also discuss the new ACCESS program that is created to improve the accessibility of national cyberinfrastructure centers on campuses across the nation.

Bio: Varun Chandola is currently program director in the Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure at NSF in charge of data related cyberinfrastructure programs. He is on leave from his permanent position as an Associate Professor in the Computer Science and Engineering Department and the Center for Computational and Data-Enabled Science and Engineering (CDSE) at the University at Buffalo. His research covers the application of data mining and machine learning to problems involving big and complex data, focusing on anomaly detection from big and complex data. Before joining UB, he was a scientist in the Computational Sciences and Engineering Division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He has a Phd in Computer Science and Engineering from University of Minnesota.
