CIS679: Introduction to Multimedia Networking

Project Rules


The course project is meant as an opportunity for students to study mobile handset systems and applications in light of multimedia and networking. The project has two options:

  1. Conduct a survey of mobile handset multimedia and networking of your choice; or
  2. Build an application for a real-world mobile handset that relates to this topic.

 

Projects are to be conducted in teams of 3–5 students; there should be 10–12 teams in total. Each team is responsible for writing a report and presenting project results. All students in the same team will receive the same scores.

For option (1) (2), students’ topics must encompass both multimedia and mobile handsets. For option (2), students may use Android phones, iPhones and other phones for application development.

Proposal

Each team needs to select option (1) or (2) and a topic and have the topic approved by the instructor and the grader before project work begins. Each team needs to submit TWO topics to the instructor (xuan@cse.ohio-state.edu) and CC to the grader (tengj@cse.ohio-state.edu) (Subject: CSE679 project proposal).The proposal should include the selected option, team member information such as names and majors, and applications to be developed (if applicable). The proposal will be due by 11:59 AM on Oct. 17, 2011.

Presentation

Each team will have 25 minutes to present its work in the class at the end of this quarter.

Report

Each team must submit a report in either MS Word or PDF format. The report should be at least 6 pages for Option 1 and 3 pages for Option 2, with single-spaced, two-column pages in 10 point type on 8.5’’ x 11’’ paper. See style files for details. The report (in hardcopy) will be due by 1:30 PM on Dec. 8, 2011 (before the final). The report in softcopy should be emailed to the instructor and the grader (tengj@cse.ohio-state.edu) in MS Word or PDF formats by the same time (Subject: CSE679: group id, filename: 679_2011_group_id_rep.pdf).
