Curriculum Committee ("CC") Minutes for 18 April 1995 ______________________________________________________________________________ Attending: Fujimura, Kerr, Soundararajan, Weide, Yagel, Yeack, Zhao * Discussion of proposed "object-oriented programming" course using C++ Neelam presented his answers to the standard questionnaire for new course proposals (~weide/pub/curriculum/new-course-questions.txt), and a syllabus. The proposal is to teach a 694 pilot version in Wi 1996. Audience is CIS majors; prerequisite is 560. Two specific objectives of the pilot are to try to determine whether this is the right prerequisite, or whether more (680) or less (321) might be a better choice; and to help gauge whether this should be only a "stopgap" measure to help current students or whether it should remain in place after proposed software spine changes take effect (and, if not, which uncovered topics can/should be integrated into 655 or perhaps into a new course on "alternate programming paradigms"). CC agreed that, once the appropriate group studies paperwork is available, we would entertain a motion to recommend this for faculty approval. * Discussion of proposed "object-oriented analysis and design" course Doug presented his answers to the standard questionnaire for new course proposals (~weide/pub/curriculum/new-course-questions.txt), and a syllabus. The proposal is to teach a 694 pilot version in Sp 1996. Audience is CIS majors; prerequisite is senior or grad standing in CIS and one of 516, 670, 680, or 757, or permission. Two specific objectives of the pilot are to try to determine whether this should replace 516; and to explore questions about appropriate OOAD methodology for handling requirements analysis and design in a coherent way. CC agreed that, once the appropriate group studies paperwork is available, we would entertain a motion to recommend this for faculty approval. _____________________________________________________________________________ Next meeting: Tuesday, April 25, 1995, 10:30-11:30 AM, in DL 698. Respectfully submitted, Bruce W. Weide, CC Chair
