Curriculum Committee ("CC") Minutes for 11 April 1995 ______________________________________________________________________________ Attending: Fujimura, Kerr, Soundararajan, Weide, Yagel, Yeack * Discussion of making CIS 294I "Problem Solving with C++" into a permanent course It was agreed that the proper role for this course is as a service course (mostly for engineering students, but certainly not limited to them), with a prerequisite of EG 167 or CIS 201 or equivalent. It should be viewed not as a ""data structures" course, but a course that improves the skills of students who have limited programming background and experience and that introduces them to some important ideas and constructs of C++, including classes. Neelam will review our standard "new course questionnaire" and answer the questions so we have all necessary information to proceed toward a formal recommendation to the CIS faculty. Doug will examine EG's plans for course changes (about which we have only sketchy information now). Bruce will ask EE and the rest of the main potential audience departments in engineering why their students have been flocking to 294I's three offerings, and what their desires are in terms of particular topics for this course. Our ambitious objective is to make a recommendation to the faculty by May 1. _____________________________________________________________________________ Next meeting: Tuesday, April 18, 1995, 10:30-11:30 AM, in DL 698. Respectfully submitted, Bruce W. Weide, CC Chair
