Curriculum Committee ("CC") Minutes for 14 March 1995 ______________________________________________________________________________ Attending: Fujimura, Kerr, Ogden, Soundararajan, Weide, Yagel, Yeack, Zhao * Discussion of capstone design course for HW/SW option in Engineering Feng presented a revised proposal for a new course titled "Hardware/Software Interface Design Project", intended to be used as a capstone design course for the HW/SW option in CIS in Engineering. He also answered the questions raised during previous consideration of this proposal. The only change made was in the prerequisites, from: "CIS 459.21; CIS 660; EE 567; and junior or senior standing" to: "CIS 459.21; CIS 660; EE 567 or 329; and junior or senior standing" CC members asked more questions and observed that the proposal is sound, but that this course will involve more work, money, and especially up-front costs than the other capstone design courses. For example, it will require lab space, an initial stock of lego robot kits, and various auxiliary items such as soldering irons, lockable cabinets, etc. -- and these costs will be incurred for the first pilot offering as a 694, which is proposed for Wi 1996. The CC agreed to recommend approval of the course proposal, for presentation to Stu for resolution of budget and space concerns. Once these are addressed and the course proposal paperwork can be completed, CC will review the paperwork and (presumably) then go forward with a recommendation to the faculty. Feng and Bruce will talk with Stu and report back early in Spring quarter. _____________________________________________________________________________ Next meeting: Tuesday, April 4, 1995, 10:45-11:30 AM; room TBA. NOTE: Yes, we will begin at 10:45 (promptly). Respectfully submitted, Bruce W. Weide, CC Chair
