Curriculum Committee ("CC") Minutes for 24 January 1995 ______________________________________________________________________________ Attending: Fujimura, Kerr, Parent, Perlman, Soundararajan, Weide, Winters, Yagel, Yeack, Zhao 1. Discussion of proposed updates to the computer graphics courses Roni presented his ad hoc subcommittee's answers to the questions asked last week about a proposal to update the official descriptions and syllabi for CIS 681, 781, 782, and 783, including increasing 681 and 781 from 3 credit hours to 4. The proposed changes were then unanimously approved by CC. Roni and Bruce will work with Deanna to prepare the paperwork, and faculty approval will be sought at the next faculty meeting. 2. Discussion of how to address faculty directive to explore a 2-credit-hour 459-like C++ course with no C prerequisite CC agreed that the appropriate course of action is to ask Neelam to further develop his initial proposal for a 3 credit hour upper division course on Object-Oriented Programming. Once this is on the table, we will revisit the question of the 2 credit hour course discussed at the January 9 faculty meeting. 3. Discussion of possible withdrawal of several courses not recently taught and unlikely to be taught in the foreseeable future (new business item not on agenda) Cheryl reported that there are several such courses (e.g., 459.11 "PL/1", 548 "Computer Science for High School Teachers", 615 "Arithmetic Algorithms", 715-716-717 "Algebraic Algorithms I-II-III", 726 "Introduction to Automata and Language Theory", 886 "Introduction to Doctoral Studies") which are still in the official course offerings book. CC agreed that Cheryl will check the dates of last offering of these courses and will report results to CC and to cis.committee.curriculum. CC will then consider withdrawal of any courses whose listing gives students a false impression about actual CIS course offerings. _____________________________________________________________________________ Next meeting: Tuesday, 7 February 1995, 10:30-11:20 AM, in DL 698. Respectfully submitted, Bruce W. Weide, CC Chair
