I spend most of my waking hours in the lab, or in office hours, or teaching, or doing things that are required for being an adult, like laundry and dishes. However, once in awhile, I discover that I have somehow acquired this magical thing called "free time," which I devote to hobbies like painting (I suck), knitting, reading, watching TV, and playing roleplaying, board, and video games. I'm the treasurer of the Miniatures and Gaming Association of OSU, where I'm currently playing Fireborn. Before I came to Columbus, where there are shockingly few mountains or mountain bike trails, and where there also happen to be shockingly many cunning bike thieves, I was an avid mountain biker. And in the very distant past, I enjoyed (and was good at) horseback riding.

I am vegan (well, nearly--I'm vegetarian with strong vegan tendencies), and I grew up on a farm in the middle of the national forest in South Carolina. I spent my time as an undergrad in New York, first in NYC at NYU, then on Long Island at SUNY Stony Brook. I have a husband, David, who is a software developer in the Air Force, and is stationed in Illinois, and a cat, Elephant, who is very large and very talkative and likes to destroy things in my apartment. My parents still live in the middle of nowhere, South Carolina, but my sister went to school in and is now living and working near Los Angeles. My maternal grandparents live near Bremen in Germany, and I understand German fairly well, but speak it only when I really have to (and then, very badly).

Also my hair is much longer than this picture indicates, but there will probably be no new photos until I get my braces off.
