There are many ways to remotely connect to stdsun. Here are 2 of those methods.

  1. I want to edit files in emacs / I want to use the regular stdsun GUI
  2. I want to edit files in Notepad++

1. Run stdsun_start.bat and login

2. Type vncserver, which gives GREEKLETTER:## (e.g. kappa:11)
   (requires subscription to CONTRIB)

3. Keep the terminal open

4. Edit stdsun_tunnel.bat to be of the format
	putty.exe -L 5900:localhost:59## GREEKLETTER.cse.ohio-state.edu

5. Run stdsun_tunnel.bat and login

6. Keep the terminal open

7. Run vncviewer.exe and connect to 127.0.0.1 and login

8. When finished, close vncviewer.exe and then the second terminal

9. In the first terminal, run
	vncserver -kill GREEKLETTER:##

10. Close the first terminal

OPTION 2: Command line and Notepad++

Download current version of Notepad++ at
http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/
If choice between ANSI or UNICODE, choose ANSI.

Download current version of NppFTP plugin at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/nppftp/
Copy NppFTPA.dll file to Notepad++'s plugins folder

Start Notepad++
Choose Plugins->NppFTP->Show NppFTP window

In NppFTP window, click the Gear icon and choose Profile settings.
Pick Add new.

Hostname: stdsun.cse.ohio-state.edu
Connection type: SFTP
Port: 22
Username: as appropriate
Password: as appropriate
Initial remote directory: ~
Everything else is OK

Then click the blue connection icon in NppFTP window
and select your profile to connnect.

Can also access group directories by making a new profile
with the same settings, but changing the initial remote directory
to something like /project/c321aa19/
