Course Description
Introduction to the use of database systems. Use of SQL and relational algebra;
conceptual and logical database design; entity-relationship model; normalization;
introduction to transaction processing
Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course a student should:
- understand the use of relational databases
- understand relational data languages, such as SQL and relational algebra
- understand the mechanisms for data independence, such as data models, languages and
views
- understand logical database design
- become familiar with conceptual database design
- become familiar with record-at-a-time processing
- become familiar with transaction processing
Midterm/Final Exam Schedule
The midterm is scheduled during regular class time on May 3rd.
The final exams for this class are scheduled as follows:
- if you are a graduating senior, the final will be May 29 at a time and placed to be
determined. Let me know as soon as possible if you will be taking the early final.
- For all other students, the final will be during regular class
time on June 5.
You must take the exams (midterm and final) during the time scheduled.
No makeups will be given except with prior approval of the instructor.
This approval will only be given in the most extreme of circumstances.
Without prior instructor approval, you will receive a grade of zero on
the exam. No exceptions will be made to this policy.
