How do I get my BUCK ID
and what is my OSU ID number? (back)
- There are
actually two ID numbers assigned to each employee:
one is BUCK ID and the other is a tracking
number assigned by Human Resources which will appear on your check
called your OSU ID number. Note your OSU
ID number in a convenient place as it will be needed
for filling
out various forms. The BUCK ID number is designated on a picture
based identification card issued to faculty, staff and students.
While it is not mandatory to get the card, many useful services are
obtained using the card. See the buckid website for further

How do I get business cards ordered?

- The CSE Fiscal Officer is in charge of ordering business
cards. These are not ordered until a
faculty member has arrived.
How do I get my voice mail setup?

- Generally, faculty
have answering
machines. The department can provide one
for you or you can purchase one (under $100) and be reimbursed.
How do I get my email account setup?

- The CSE Computing Staff will contact you prior to your
scheduled arrival date to set up your email account at OSU.
What
newsgroups are available and how do I
sign up for them?

What type of
equipment is available?

- DL395: 2 copiers, 1 color copier, 1 fax machine, TV
and VCR
- SOC lab: labtop computers and projectors
- DL894, department lounge: coffee and other hot
beverages - $12/quarter or $.30/cup
How do I get my copier password setup?

- Copier passwords are of your choice. Contact the main office staff to have the
password activated on the copiers.
Where do I get a list of phone
numbers/email addresses of
all faculty and staff? (back)
- The chair’s office can provide a current
list.
Where do I get tickets for
football/basketball games? (back)
- The Athletic Ticket office is located in the Schottenstein Center. You must go there and present your OSU ID to
obtain an application. After you have
purchased tickets, the application will be automatically mailed to you
each
year. Football tickets are purchased in
May and basketball tickets are purchased in October.
Staff have a three
year waiting period for football tickets.
What is
SIG Lunch? (back)
- A group of faculty meet at 11:30am on the 3rd floor outside
the main office to go to lunch together.
What is the
department calendar?

- The department calendar is used for internal room
reservation procedures. Internal rooms include: DL280/480
and conference rooms such as DL263, DL698/298/498. Ask the front
desk for more information. If you need an external room i.e.
those not scheduled by the department, contact your department
scheduling person.
What do I need to know about traveling
to conferences? (back)
- Two forms
must be completed: an absence from
campus and a prior travel form. Both are
available in the main office at the front desk. Registration
and airline tickets may be prepaid. Receipts
are necessary for
reimbursement. For foreign travel, you can obtain
a possible $700 foreign travel grant obtained from COE, which can be
awarded at most once every 2 year per faculty member.
How do I access my startup funds?

- Check with the Fiscal Officer for procedures.
Generally, an account will have been created which you can charge
against.
Am I on any
committees?

- Probably :o)
A
committee
list is published each June by the chair’s office and may be obtained
from
them, or check your mailbox for a copy.
Who is the
Faculty Meeting Secretary?

- If you are a new faculty member to CSE, you are the faculty
meeting secretary! If multiple new faculty arrive in the same
year, duties are shared. See the Chair's Administrative Assistant
for further information.
Where are the supplies and how do I
get things that aren’t
stocked? (back)
- A small
number of supplies are kept in the room off the copier room. For items that are not kept there, they may
be obtained from the front desk personnel or an order placed by the
same.
What do I do with the mountain of
moving boxes in my office?

How to I get more/less furniture for

What is a Zero
Interest Loan and how
can I apply for one? (back)
- A zero-interest loan is available from the Office or
Academic Affairs for up to $1500 (for 3 months) for new faculty.
Mailing
Lists for New OSU Faculty and
New Science and Engineering
Faculty. (back)
- There's a mailing list for new faculty at OSU. A group
gets together every Wednesday to have lunch (usually at the Faculty
Club), and is a useful source of information (such as the zero-interest
loan!). Also, there's a "Tomorrow's Professor" mailing list for
new science and engineering faculty. It is moderated and
low-volume, but often has useful advice and observations on the process
of being junior faculty.

proposal submissions? (back)

the College of Engineering.
