  • 5/29 - Final Exam Input
  • 5/22 - Quiz5 test, Quiz5 key, Quiz5 (pptx) tables
  • 5/22 - On Tuesday, May 24th, I will be handing back quiz5 and going over grade issues, like where you stand in the class based on the total points. It's the first time during the quarter that this can be done since the drop quiz will finally take effect once quiz5 grades are entered. I will NOT post this information, so please be sure to attend class :O)
  • 5/22 - Be sure to check the GRADES website frequently for updates. You have until the last day of classes, Friday, May 30th, to ask questions or make update requests for your grades. After this date, no updates will be made.
  • 5/14  - Remember that the final exam is on MONDAY (not our normal day of class) and you MUST bring a picture ID. You will not be allowed to start the exam without proper identification and you will not be granted extra time, either.
  • 5/14 - You will be allowed a "cheat sheet" for the final exam. It can be a single sheet of 8.5x11 paper that you can write, copy, type, and/or paint on, etc. You can use both sides of the paper; both front and back. You can write as small as you like as long as you don't need a magnifying glass to read it ;o) You can put anything you want on this paper. You will be required to turn in the cheat sheet with your final exam. The TAs will check whether or not you brought in a cheat sheet and will mark it on the attendance sheet. If your cheat sheet is NOT with your exam, you will be docked 50 points.
  • 5/14 - Quiz5 will be given as scheduled the second hour of class (per usual) and will cover all of access. There will be a relationship diagram (per usual), a couple of short answer questions, then several query design view grids for you to fill in. • 4/24 - The midterm will be as scheduled on Thursday May 1st. You will get 1.5 hours to complete the exam (1:45-3:15). Since you will be sitting in different seats, the first 15 minutes will be spent getting settled and asking last minute questions.

  • 4/18 - Quiz3 is the second half of class as specified on the syllabus. The quiz will cover only the following functions: nested IF, reference functions and financial functions.
  • 4/15 - We went over in class that I do not want to see you putting quotes around boolean values.  Here's the file that I went over in class to show you why:  BooleanQuoteIssues
  • 4/15 - Remember that you have no more than one week from the day graded material is returned in class to ask questions about your grade.
  • 4/10 - Quiz2 material is comprehensive, but will include mainly unit problems and multiple worksheets as well as logical (AND, OR, NOT) and single (not nested) IF functions. This is up to page 37 in the slides and up to exercise# 19 in the course notes.
  • 4/10Quiz2 will be given as designated on the syllabus (tues 4/15) during the second half of class. Please remember to bring a picture ID.
  • 4/10 - Quiz#1 test, Quiz#1 key
  • 4/3 - Quiz1 material will include: excel problems/excercises 1-9 and slides pages 1-24.
  • 4/3 - Quiz1 will be given as designated on the syllabus (tues 4/8) during the second half of class. Please remember to bring a picture ID.
  • 4/1 - Please remember to contact your graduate student lab TA for lab questions, lab make-ups, lab grade issues, or anything having to do with lab ;o)
  • 4/1 - The tutor room is open now - please check Carmen for days/times.
  • 3/26 - Be sure to BRING THE LAB1 ASSIGNMENT TO LAB THIS WEEK - yes, you have lab this first week of class. Remember, the printed version of the in-lab assignment is in your course notes but you can also get a copy of lab1 from Carmen.
  • 3/25 - Welcome to CSE200 :o)
  • FYI - Remember to check my schedule for appointment times if you can't make office hours.
  • FYI - In order to see where you stand in the class, you can download the grades website page into Excel.  Just copy the information from the web page (highlight the data and press CTRL-C), open an excel workbook, choose the "home" ribbon, then paste and paste special, then choose the text option and click on OK.  You now have the data stored in an Excel spreadsheet.
  • FYI - Individual grades are posted ONLY on my website. I do not post grades or announcements on Carmen.  Also, the data needs to be uploaded, so you won't see automatic updates in grades thru the website when the gradebook is updated.  I will do my best to update these pages at least once a week. There is a date on the page so you know when the last update was made.
  • FYI - Grades will be posted by a given random code. This code will be given to you when the first quiz is returned.
  • FYI - Assigned seats will be given during the first hour of class prior to Quiz#1.  You are required to sit in these seats ONLY for the actual exams. Sometimes, the seats will change... just depends!
  • FYI - You will not be allowed to leave the room once an exam starts.
  • FYI - The syntax of all the Excel functions covered in lecture will be given on the tests.
  • FYI - No calculators can be used for any exam.  Too much can be stored in them!  Some students will then ask if they can bring in a really simple calculator.  Again, the answer is no. The reason for this is because not all students would be willing to buy even a small calculator and other students will forget to bring them, putting them at a "disadvantage".  Thus, until buying a certain type/style of calculator is part of the requirements for the course, no calculators will be allowed :o(
  • FYI - When you email me, please be sure to mention your lab section or your seat#. There are 2 gradebooks per lecture section for the course and they are separated by lab section, so if you have grade concerns, I need to know which file to look in. THANKS!
  • FYI - You are responsible for your work if you are working from home.  Everyone can work in the lab to complete the assignments so PC problems from home will not be acceptable excuses for not completing your pre-lab work on time!
  • FYI - Be sure to check Carmen for Course Materials under: Content, Course Materials, then choose the correct problem based on the problem number given in the Course Notes.  The files are there for you to use for practice and solutions are also given :o)
  • FYI- You have ONLY 1 week after grades are given out to update a score.
  • FYI - Please remember to contact your lab instructor about lab absences, questions, concerns, etc. If you have further issue about any particular situation, please don’t hesitate to contact me at that point.
  • FYI - Remember that the TUTOR ROOM (DL176) is (will be) available.  See the CSE200 Carmen website for details. These won't be updated until sometime during the second week of classes.
  • FYI - You MUST bring a picture ID to every exam.
  • FYI - Be sure to carefully read the Course Information section of your Course Notes (prior to the "Excel" tab), as well as my website Syllabus.
  • FYI - You are responsible for the missed material should you not make it to class.
  • FYI - If you need/want to change lab and/or lecture sections, you will need to go to DL489 on Wednesday 3/26/08 from 9am-3pm to fill out a request form.
  • FYI - This class will take a significant amount of your time.  Please be aware that spending 15-20 hours a week on this class is not unusual i.e. 4 hours lecture,2 hours lab, plus 2 hours out of class for every hour spent in class! 6 hrs in class; 12 hrs out for a total of 18 per week... and that's just an average!
  • FYI - I recommend that you buy the books. I know they are expensive... sorry :o( but you need them. You can buy used ones, but only those for Office 2007 and the labs are a  a tad different but only for lab1/lab2. As for the course notes, you can also have a used version however, i don't recommend it. There will be things written in the book on both the slides and the course problems and it would be best if these things weren't already there. Also, there is a chance that small changes were made to the pre-lab assignments from quarter to quarter. If you do have a used set of course notes, be sure to print off your pre-lab assignments from Carmen i.e. do not use the ones in a used set of course notes.
