To be added at the appropriate time:

· Final exam – You can bring a “cheat sheet” to the final exam. One 8x11 sheet of paper (no layers), front and back. You can put anything you want on it. It can be typed, handwritten, copied, etc, doesn’t matter. You MUST have your own page (i.e. you can’t share with anyone) and you MUST turn in your cheat sheet with your exam. So, if you want to keep what you put on your cheat sheet, you have to copy it before you come in to the final exam.

· 11/23 – The FINAL EXAM is on Thursday December 10^th 9:30-11:18am in DL113 (per the syllabus). See above for cheat sheet instructions.

· 11/23 – On Tuesday 12/1, I will complete the slides and go over what will be on the final exam. The details will not be available on the announcement or thru email but you can talk to another student or visit my office if you miss class.

· 11/23 – You must attend lab10 lab day to get credit for lab10. You need to go to get the lab graded and you need to pick up your lab9 score and ask questions then and there if you have concerns about your lab grade. The consultants and TAs are busy final exam week with their own classes, so will not be available to revisit any lab issues.

· 11/23 – Class is formally canceled Tuesday, 11/24 and Thursday, 12/3. I will attend class in case anyone has questions, but nothing new or different will be covered. It will be like one big office hour or tutor session :O)

· 11/23 – The tutor room will NOT be available during final exam week. Thursday Dec 3^rd is the last day the tutor room will be open. Thus, if you need to makeup labs, you MUST finish by Thursday Dec 3^rd since we do makeup labs in the tutor room. Remember that lab9 is required to pass the class, so be sure to talk with your lab TA if you did not submit anything for this lab.

· 10/13 – Quiz2 is as scheduled in the syllabus, the second hour of class. It will cover AND, OR, and NOT functions, what-if vs goal seek, charts, as well as unit problems and multiple spreadsheet issues. No other functions will be given on the exam.

FIRST OF THE QUARTER ANNOUNCEMENTS

EXAM and GRADES

· FYI – Misconduct Issues?

· FYI - You MUST bring a picture ID to every exam.

· FYI- You have ONLY 1 week after grades are given out to update a score. 

· FYI - I will have copies of your graded exams in my office, so you can email me questions about your grade and I can check the copy :o)

· FYI – Graded exams likely will not be given back for a week.

· FYI – Your answer sheet will be copied off and given back to you in lab along with your question page(s). I will post the solutions once the exam is complete (likely on Friday sometime) so that you can check your work.

· FYI - In order to see where you stand in the class, you can download the grades website page into Excel.  Just copy the information from the web page (highlight the data and press CTRL-C), open an excel workbook, choose the "home" ribbon, then paste and paste special; then choose the text option and click on OK.  You now have the data stored in an Excel spreadsheet.

· FYI - Individual grades are posted ONLY on my website. I do not post grades or announcements on Carmen.  Also, the data needs to be uploaded, so you won't see automatic updates in grades thru the website when the gradebook is updated.  I will do my best to update these pages at least once a week. There is a date on the page so you know when the last update was made.

· FYI - Grades will be posted by a given random code. This code will be given to you when the first quiz is returned.

· FYI - Assigned seats will be given during the first hour of class prior to each exam.  You are required to sit in these seats ONLY for the actual exams.

· FYI - You will not be allowed to leave the room once an exam starts.

· FYI - The syntax of all the Excel functions covered in lecture will be given on the tests.

· FYI - No calculators can be used for any exam.  Too much can be stored in them!  Some students will then ask if they can bring in a really simple calculator.  Again, the answer is no. The reason for this is because not all students would be willing to buy even a small calculator and other students will forget to bring them, putting them at a "disadvantage".  Thus, until buying a certain type/style of calculator is part of the requirements for the course, no calculators will be allowed :o(

COURSE INFORMATION

· FYI - Be sure to carefully read the Course Information section of your Course Notes (prior to the "Excel" tab), as well as my website Syllabus link material.

· FYI - Remember to check my schedule for appointment times if you can't make office hours.

· FYI - When you email me, please be sure to mention your lab section. There are 2 gradebooks per lecture section for the course and they are separated by lab section, so if you have grade concerns, I need to know which file to look in. THANKS!

· FYI - You are responsible for your work if you are working from home.  Everyone can work in the lab to complete the assignments so PC problems from home will not be acceptable excuses for not completing your pre-lab work on time.

· FYI - Please remember to contact your lab instructor about lab absences, questions, concerns, etc. If you have further issue about any particular situation, please don’t hesitate to contact me at that point.

· FYI - You are responsible for the missed material should you not make it to class.

· FYI - If you want to change lab and/or lecture sections, you will need to talk with the instructor associated with the lecture/lab section.

· FYI - Remember that the TUTOR ROOM (DL176) is (will be) available.  See the CSE200 Carmen website for details. These won't be updated until sometime during the end of the first week or beginning of the second week of classes.

· FYI - This class will take a significant amount of your time.  Please be aware that spending 15-20 hours a week on this class is not unusual i.e. 4 hours lecture,2 hours lab, plus 2 hours out of class for every hour spent in class! 6 hrs in class; 12 hrs out for a total of 18 per week... and that's just an average!

TEXT REMINDERS

· FYI - I will get many questions about the book… a lot of students will ask if they can use a friend’s access code for the Cengage website. My answer/reply is that can't answer this question! It's the same as you saying, "Hey, I like the music you are playing on your ipod, can you make me a copy?” What I can say is that you can get the in-lab files from Carmen and the pre-lab files as well as the course material problems (as shown in your course notes book from Uniprint under the Excel and Access tabs) can only be accessed thru the Cengage learning site (this is what you need the access code for); the online text (so you don't have to carry it around) can also be used at this point. The materials from last quarter are basically the same with some possible changes in the pre-lab instructions.

· Purchase: Online Course Text materials at the following website (http://tosucse200.ichaptersbuy.com) for ISBN 1435429265.  This site will provide you with an access code to the materials.  Hard copies will also be sent via UPS.  This site has been setup to get the lowest possible costs.  The online materials (in print and access code) are also available at the OSU bookstores.
