Grading

I. Class Participation: 5%
Students are expected to participate in class discussions. For discovering limitations of papers to be discussed it is strongly recommended that students read the papers before coming to the class. New ideas for problems and new solutions and approaches are especially welcome during class discussions.

II. Class Presentation: 15%
Each student has to make a presentation during the course. The presentation will be based on a topic and some papers assigned by the instructor. The speaker is expected to read all the background material for the topic and have original ideas for extending the work in the papers.

II. Critiques: 20%

Some papers (no more than 1 per week) will be marked for critique writing. The critique will be due at the beginning of the respective class. About 6 papers will be used for critique writing.

IV. Project: 60%
Students are expected to work on a research project that will produce a high quality research paper at the end of course. As it is a 10 week class, students are expected to start early on the project. The project must have an experimental/measuement aspect using real devices. Only simulation based studies are not acceptable. Various platforms are available for experimentation such as

  • 10 Laptops, 10 Smartphones
  • USRP (Gnurdio)
  • Whitespace Antennae
  • ORBIT Testbed, Rutgers (802.11 nodes)
  • Motelab Testbed Harvard

The project requires submitting a proposal, making a presentation on the project and submitting a final project report. You are encouraged to work in a group of 2-3 students.
