The making of a snowflake inside of a cloud by a 'rube goldberg' type of mechanism. The snowflake exits the cloud via a toilet. Uses black and white 'toon shading. Procedural elements:
  • toon shader in MEL (Matt, Dan)
  • snowflake design, shattering effect, gear to snowflake (John)
  • water elements: water gun particles, gravity, undulating water trough (Mark)
  • collision detection in several places possible

A traveler struggles against a sand storm and impending darkness, lit only be a distant light source. With darkness around, he finds the lighthouse - might have a crowd of people coming to it. He scales it and replaces the bulb (at which point I think he should be burnt to a crisp - showing the futility of altruism). The darkness is chased away. Procedural elements
  • the dark cloud: particle emitters on keyframed figure, particle motion (Nick & Eddie)
  • sandstorm: random velocity of particles, motion blur (Kyle & Kyle)
