Josh King's diversions

Earth is chock full of things - that's why I like it here so much

Josh Kin (lolspeak website)

On the internet are some of the more wondrous things found in this world. I ran across the lolspeak website converter lolinator which converted my website quite craftully. Try it out with your own website to be amused for some time. To its detriment, it does not keep links, so you cannot easily generate a lolspeak website but only a lolspeak webpage.

Some figures

This is an illustration for a problem for one of my classes. I'm not sure if I needed GasTeX to do it, and I'm most certainly sure that there are a few too many control points used, but it came out okay.

This two-class problem
might be difficult to classify

Following is an image of MFCC coefficients produced for two wave files, the first one saying "one" and the second one saying "two". Thirty MFCC coefficients were calculated, but only the first thirteen are pictured. The colormap used is the one called 'hsv' in matlab; how violently violet! (Violet, the opposite of chartreuse [also represented a bit in the images below] on the HSV colorwheel)

Below is a picture of a finite state trasducer (created in the same class as the image above) which calls a sequence of cards (not necessarily well-formed) a straight if that's what it is. The image was created from OpenFST output using the dot tool from graphviz to create a ps2 file, then converted to pdf using ps2pdf, then saved as a gif (I guess for kicks) using MacOSX's Preview program. Why did I not just output an image from dot? I think I must've done something wrong during installation.

Miscellany and/or Errata

Over spring break my brain went into hibernation and I used power tools to do a little spring cleaning. My wife and I also took a trip to Cincinnati to visit the new Ohio Ikea (don't worry, I took my brain out of sleep mode for the drive).

Over the winter break I practically had free time! Activities included going home, having eggnog, and playing with dwarven ascii.
