Hi, this is Ruoming Jin's homepage!

I have completed my Ph.D. in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), the Ohio State University.

Starting Fall, 2005, I will be an assistant professor in the Computer Science Department, Kent State University. My new webpage is at http://www.cs.kent.edu/~jin.

My research focuses on Data Mining, Databases, and High Performance Computing.

My advisor is Prof. Gagan Agrawal.

*  Research Topics

My dissertation work focuses on developing new techniques for frequent structure (pattern) mining. I am working on the following problems.

*Mining Multiple Datasets

*Single-pass Algorithms for Mining Data Streams

*New Data Structures for Maintaining Itemsets

*A Generalized Model for Frequent Structure Mining

Besides the above work, I also proposed a new algorithm FEKM to speedup k-means clustering on very large out-of-core datasets and developed several new techniques to efficiently construct decse.on tree on streaming data.

I am also interested in parallel data mining. I have developed a middleware FREERIDE for efficient parallelization of data mining algorithms on disk-resident datasets, and designed several new parallel data mining and OLAP algorithms.

Applying data mining in real applications always intrigues me. Some of my course projects involve mining biology datasets, such as clustering protein sequences of chicken and classification of DNA sequences.
