Wei Huang

    I am currently a PhD candidate in Network Based Computing Laboratory. I will graduate in this coming Summer (2008). I am planning to join VMware, Palo Alto, CA.

    My advisor is Prof. D. K. Panda.

I was awarded an IBM PhD scholarship in 2007. I am recently awarded the Department Research Award.

Research Projects

I am currently working on two projects, focusing on networked systems (especially communication subsystems) and High Performance Computing:

1) High Performance Computing with Virtual Machines (VM). We are collaborating with Dr. Jiuxing Liu and Dr. Bulent Abali from the IBM T. J. Waston Research Center on this project (details)

• Reducing the overhead of communication subsystems in VM environments
• Higher level VM-aware communication libraries services for high end computing
• Evaluation of VM-based computing infrastructures

2) High Performance Message Passing Interface (MPI) over InfiniBand. (details)

• A portable and scalable MPI2 design based on Abstract Device Interface (ADI3) of MPICH2
• Optimization on One Sided Communication
• Optimization on non-contiguous derived datatype communication
• More advanced features, e.g. dynamic process management, checkpoint/restart, etc.
