Results from Lab2:
The generally best operator was the erik Operator 0. This makes sense, as
the scaling for YIQ was done and then the entire YIQ was converted back.
The
erik Operator 1 is a rather bad tone mapping operator, but I left it in the
results as an example. It uses a scaling of the RGB by the converted Y
to the
original Y. This yields a lot of hue problems. There ferdi did well generally,
however led to some washed out/unsaturated looking scenes.
I observed that
something between the ferdi and erik would be nice, so I decided to make an
addition to the ferdi as an option and averaged the two operators.
One problem that all of the tone mapping operators I implemented had as that sometimes the specular highlights were incorrectly colored.
Here are jpg samples of the images. To view the images in their ppm/hdr format, they are at www.cse.ohio-state.edu/~herres/782 in zip format.
Leftmost image is HDR converted to jpg using GraphicConverter program. Next
image is ferdi, then erik operator 0 then erik operator 1 and finally
is my new blended operator.
