I am a LaTeX fan, but not a hacker. It means that I can use LaTeX to create beautiful documents, but don't know how to make the packages and templates. LaTeX is a "subperfect" tool to create those documents with logical structures. There are some tips.
Books
The Not So Short Introduction to LATEX2e (LATEX2e in 141 minutes)
I think that it is the most famous book on LaTeX. It is interesting that each edition of this book has different "minutes", i.e., the 2008 edition is "141" minutes, the 2002 edition is "112" minutes, and the 2001 edition is "95" minutes .... Here is the "shortest" edition I can find, which is only "85" minutes. Anyway, no matter how much time it lists on the title, it will definitely not take you more than one afternoon to enter the world of LaTeX!
