This is for roadrunner/dsl/etc users that wish to remotely log into unix. It uses MS Internet Explorer and no software download is necessary. It’s very easy.

  1. Connect to gamma.cis.ohio-state.edu via telnet
  2. Login then type ‘subscribe’
  3. Subscribe to CONTRIB
  4. Press ‘q’ to exit the menu
  5. Type ‘exit’ to logout
  6. Log back in, then type ‘vncserver’
  7. It will give you a two digit port number xx
  8. Type ‘http://gamma.cis.ohio-state.edu:58xx’ into web browser
Make sure to exit out by pressing the “disconnect” button.

Each time you wish to use the unix desktop, simply follow step number (8) only.
