Final Exam Issues

Apparently there was a mixup in the photocopying of the take-home final exam today, where half of the questions were missing. Please stop by the main office (DL395) with your BuckID and pick up a new exam. Also, email me to let me know that you got the exam.

Guest lecture slides online

I've put the slides from most of the guest lectures online in the lectures directory. These include those from Dr. Wang, Dr. Byron, and Dr. Stone. Tomorrow's lecture will be online shortly. I hope to get Mr. Gao's lecture online as well.

My research lectures are found within the appropriate lecture slides.

Example paper to use as a model for project

On Tuesday I'll talk a bit about the project write-up. I wanted to give you an example of a semi-decent description of a machine learning experiment (well, ok, it won a best-paper award); it's written for an ASR-oriented audience but you should be able to follow most of what's going on.

E. Fosler-Lussier. "Multi-level decision trees for static and dynamic pronunciation models," Sixth European Conference on Speech Communication and Technology (Eurospeech '99), Budapest, Hungary, 1999.

Your writeup (unlike this paper) should not assume that the reader knows the details of the machine learning algorithm that was used; I want to make sure that you understand the technology that you're using in your project.
