Project presentation/writeup
There are two evaluation components to the group projects: (a) the project presentation, and (b) the project writeup. The presentation will be 30 minutes in length and take place in the last week of class (order selected randomly); project writeups are due 4 pm, Wednesday 10 March. Obviously, at the time of the presentation you may not have the project finished, but I expect that there will be some preliminary results to report.

The required contents of the report and the presentation are the same (although the report will be more complete and extensive). I want you to cover the following points at a minimum:

  • Description of the baseline (first) system that you built: what is the process, how did you go about dividing up the work, results from the test set, etc.
  • Description of any contrast conditions that you were able to try (monophones versus triphones, gender independent versus gender dependent, etc)
  • What was your experience in building the system? What difficulties did you run into? What was really easy? Where did the manual lead you astray?
  • What level of expertise is needed to train an ASR system using this system? Why?
Note that this is a minimum and that any additional novel things that you have to say will be rewarded.

Clarification questions welcomed, and I'll post the answers here.
