  Students I currently supervise |
I have the great fortune to be the primary research supervisor for a talented group of graduate students. The group currently includes:
I also work with other dynamic CSE and Linguistics students, including:  My Research Colleagues at OSU |
The Computational Linguistics research program at OSU is headed by five investigators: me, Eric Fosler-Lussier, Detmar Meurers, Chris Brew, and Mike White. Our research and events are consolidated on the CLLT website. We meet once a week on Friday afternoons to talk about local research activities and learn from each other.
I also co-lead the OSU Pragmatics Initiative along with Craige Roberts and Scott Schwenter. This group investigates the question of how language meaning is influenced by context. We host an active speaker's series and meet weekly on Thursday afternoon. The research activities of the group can be found on the pragmatics website .
The Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence is the home of all Artificial Intelligence research in OSU's CSE department. The LAIR was established in 1970 and was the first lab to get organized within the OSU CSE department. In addition to our Computational Linguitics research, other researchers in the LAIR perform cutting-edge research that keeps me constantly inspired in the areas of Neurodymanics (Leon Wang), Computer Vision (Jim Davis), Reasoning and Knowledge Representation (John Josephson and Chandra) and Machine Learning Mikhail Belkin. Members of the LAIR meet bi-weekly to discuss our ongoing research activities.
I am also a member of OSU's Center for Cognitive Science, which brings together researchers interested in cognition from across OSU. The center is active in sponsoring outside speakers, funding a summer graduate student exchange within OSU, and provides space for the OSU Eyetracking lab.
Other places I have worked |
Before coming to OSU, I was a member of the Conversational Interaction and Spoken Dialogue Research Group at the University of Rochester from 1996 until 2002. I worked for James Allen on the TRIPS-Pacifica, TRIPS-911, and Medadvisor systems.
I was supported for the summer of 2002 by Michael Tanenhaus and I continue to collaborate with Mike and Sarah Brown-Schmidt on psycholinguistics research.
In the summer of 2000, I was a research intern at IBM's TJ Watson Research Center in the Information Retrieval and Analysis Group. My supervisor was Jim Cooper.
