Nan Deng,
PhD Current Research project: Nan has been the lead student on the sustainable datacenters project. He has published at OSDI 2010 (poster), ISSST 2011 (award paper) and NOMS 2012. More information on this work can be found at this webpage. |
Jaimie Kelley,
PhD Current Research project: Jaimie plans to look into energy efficient systems. She is currently completing coursework after her first year in the program. More information on this work can be found at this webpage. |
Aniket Chakrabarti,
PhD Current Research project: Aniket is a first year student. He plans to build key-value storage systems that provide very strict SLAs and adapt to changing energy caps. More information on this work can be found at this webpage. |
Alex Bunch,
Undergraduate Current Research project: I am advising Alex's undergraduate thesis. He is designing "GreenMail", an IMAP email service that is powered by renewable energy. Alex will (sadly) leave to CMU in the fall after graduation. More information on this work can be found at this webpage. |

Daiyi Yang,
Masters Completed his Masters degree in December 2011 Research project: Daiyi has been working on data-intensive services, focusing on hashtable middleware like Zookeeper and MemcacheD. His research characterizes the whole performance distribution of these services. En route to his Master's, Daiyi has developed a fairly large codebase that others can build on. More information on this work can be found at this webpage. |
Jing Li,
Masters Completed her Masters degree in September 2011 Research project: Jing has graduated and accepted a position at a startup in New York City. She published her Masters thesis on power in the datacenter at WEED 2011 and ISSST 2011. More information on this work can be found at this webpage. |

Joel Poualeu,
Undergraduate Completed summer research experience Research project: Joel helped us collect power usage information from several local datacenters. Working with Jing Li, he organized a spreadsheet to capture the organization of power delivery in each datacenter. Then, he spent a month to systematically read the power usage metrics from various LCD dispays in the datacenter. More information on this work can be found at this webpage. |

Nelson Burgos,
Undergraduate Completed summer research experience Research project: Nelson studied the architecture of real datacenters powered by renewable energy. He contacted managers at datacenters in St Louis, MO, Ronhert Park, CA, and Woodstock, IL. Through direct conversation, he learned about the power delivery infrastructure, grid ties, and battery backup. We hope to build upon the relationships he set up. More information on this work can be found at this webpage. |
