Using Eclipse IDE in the CSE Environment
Last updated: March 29, 2012
CSE Linux Servers
Eclipse is available for your use by logging in to the CSE linux servers (ie stdlinux.cse.ohio-state.edu) and running the following command:
$ /class/cse421/local/start-eclipse
This installation has all the plugins you need, but you will need to set your local preferences as described in the general installation guide. In particular, see step 3 for setting general Eclipse preferences and step 4 for configuring and using each plugin.
You can use either VNC (see Shaun Rowland's instructions) or X-Win32 to connect to stdlogin. This linux box isn't (yet) fully supported by the CSE help desk, but you may be able to find some help there anyway, or on the Carmen discussion board.
Computer Labs
A Windows installation of Eclipse is also available in the campus labs, as an icon on the desktop. This installation, however, is probably not up-to-date, may not include a full JDK nor several plugins and will therefore not suffice for 421 lab assignments.
