The primarily goal of TWiCE, to retain women in computing, has been satisfied 100% since its inception in AU03. The participants also offered these comments regarding high points or particular points of pride from their experience in the program.

Periodically, students members are surveyed to assess the impact of their experience in TWiCE.  Each time, 100% said that they would recommend TWiCE to other women in computing.

2005-2006

"It's difficult for me to take pride in my work, but working with young people is always undeniably rewarding. It's interesting, because I assumed I had left that behind when I switched to CSE. It's nice to see community involvement in a field that is routinely misperceived as overly technical and impersonal."

bullet

"I really enjoy working with the girls and when I feel that they have learned something new on a particular day as a result of my help, I am proud."

bullet

"I have made friends with a few of the [grade school] girls."

bullet

"Continuing to get to know the [grade school] girls better."

bullet

"There were a few times when it seemed like some of the [grade school] girls were really interested in what they were learning about, and I was proud that I could help them learn more."

bullet

"A touch of self-esteem."

bullet

"The feeling that I'm helping young girls become more familiar with computers and the types of people who enter into technical fields of study (especially women)"

bullet

"Knowing that I have done something to help the girls' futures."

bullet

"Seeing the girls' improvement with the computers, including them remembering things from previous weeks."

bullet

"It was nice to be around other female technology students."

bullet

"The best feeling was coming into class one day and having one of the girls walk up and put her arm around me and was like hey you haven't been here in awhile. The last time I was there was a month before but she still remember me and stuff."

2004-2005

bullet

“It reinforced the belief that I'd like to work more in consulting between programmers and clients as opposed to doing the coding myself."

bullet

“My participation in TWiCE has given me insight on how other girls in computer science are dealing with classes. If I have a problem or concern I can talk to them and know that there are other people going through the same thing as me.”

bullet

“I didn’t think of going to Grad school before because I never knew what RESEARCH was.”

bullet

“I made a lot of faculty contacts which is helpful in that I have a variety of people that I can ask for help if I need it, or work with on various projects."

bullet

“learned new information and skills, new situations, met some great people, feel like I hopefully made a difference... it also made the week busier”

bullet

“Yes. TWiCE has given me a chance to meet other people in computer science and now I sign up for classes so that I am with some of the people that I know from TWiCE.”

bullet

“I got to meet a lot of great women...so it has affected me in a positive personal way.

bullet

“I feel intimidated before because I always thought that I'm one of the worst Computer Engineer, but since I joined in TWiCE, I learn to interact with other people (my teammates) and sometimes I can help them solving some problems, so it makes me feel better and more confident.”
