COTA

TWiCE performed an analysis of COTA's IT service architecture.  We conducted a requirements survey to capture business unit goals, and business unit needs and expectations of the existing IT systems that support those business units and a review and audit of COTA's existing, implemented IT systems. After extensive interviews, we completed a review and audit of COTA's existing, documented and implemented practices, policies and procedures - plans, processes, service level agreements, system configurations and current backlog of IT projects etc. - in support of these business systems. The final deliverable was an evaluation (or gap analysis) of whether these existing, documented and implemented practices, policies and procedures are complete, consistent with and can support COTA's business systems. This evaluation also included a set of recommendations.

bulletThe Training and Learning Consortium

TLC serves as a cooperative for small to large size companies to collaborate and locate the best training and learning services from their purchasing power and networking.  TLC aims to provide quality and affordable training workshops for their members, by providing information to members on training sessions conducted by providers.

In the current system (http://www.thetlc.org) , members login to the TLC system and search for workshops and events that meet their needs.  Upon receiving the results, the member completes an application for the workshop. A copy of the application is sent via email to the provider for approval. The provider communicates with the applicant via email. Upon being approved for the workshop the applicant sends a check to TLC. A copy of the invoice is sent to both the provider and applicant.

The current system has no means of personalization, no form of updating member information, communication is limited through email, and the system lacks a process of maintaining individual accounts.

The enhanced system will monitor registration to minimize unfulfilled requests of workshops. The enhanced system will also attempt to maintain individual records online for member references. The enhanced system will also attempt to improve communication through the message board.

A complete specification for this project is available.

G-Tech (Godman Guild) and Maynard Methodist Church technology centers

The Technology Learning Centers offer a variety of computer classes in computer labs. Each computer lab is equipped with Internet accessible computers with various software packages installed. There are also regularly scheduled open times when computers are available for students and for research purposes. The centers help form learning communities and link students and instructors to technology.

CIS201

Computer and Information Science 201 is an introductory course that teaches students the fundamentals of computer programming and problem solving techniques using computer programs written in JAVA. TWiCE was enlisted to help make the course more meaningful, appealing, and enjoyable for first time programming students, especially women and underrepresented minority students. We researched  on-line articles, computer textbooks, conference proceedings, journals, technical reports, and other similar materials such as "A Mentor Program in CS1" by Amanda Miller and Judy Kay, "Scooping the Loop Snooper" by Geoffrey Pullum, and the fun java applets at www.ackme.net/java.htm. These resources were then creatively incorporated into class lectures, assignments and labs to enhance the students learning and boost interest in the subject of computer programming in JAVA.
