NEWPATH: IT Entrepreneurship Program for Computing Students

NEWPATH faculty and industry partners

The NEWPATH team consists of industry partners and OSU faculty members from a number of different departments.

The industry partners of the NEWPATH program currently includes:

• Strategic Thinking Industries (STI): Develops healthcare information applications for Labor & Delivery and perinatal healthcare information systems. Currently working with a national nursing organization to build a national perinatal database hospitals and researchers will use for benchmarking, competitive analysis and to drive best practice initiatives. STI has hired one of the NEWPATH students as a long-term intern and are extremely satisfied with his contributions to the organizations.

• TeamDynamix: Produces advanced enterprise project management and professional services automation solutions. V4.0 Project Suite enables users to assess the status of project portfolios with the tools to monitor team progress, identify and resolve problems and communicate with project teams. TeamDynamix has hired one of the NEWPATH students as a long-term intern and are extremely satisfied with his contributions to the organizations.

• TechColumbus. TechColumbus accelerates the growth of the innovation economy by providing vital resources and assistance to people and enterprises that depend on technology to achieve their business goals.

  TechColumbus' membership is over 260 organizations representing approximately 100,000 employees. Each year, more than 100 educational, best practice sharing, and networking programs are presented by TechColumbus to the technology and business community. TechColumbus represents its members on multiple public policy issues focused on creating a more conducive business growth environment.

  TechColumbus works actively with NEWPATH and helps identify potential internship opportunities for NEWPATH students in the startups that it is currently nurturing or has nurtured recently.

• OSU Technology, Licensing and Commercialization: The mission of the TLC team is to: foster a university-wide entrepreneurial culture; catalyze faculty, staff and student inventions; assist in maximizing the value of Ohio State developments; and to accelerate transition of new developments into products, services, and new or expanded jobs.

The faculty members currently involved with the program are:

• David Lee, Computer Science and Engineering, lee AT cse.ohio-state.edu
  Dr. Lee is the Director of the NEWPATH program. His interests range from conceptual problems in such technologies as the Internet through creating successful start-ups. He is involved with all aspects of NEWPATH from choosing students for the program, to overseeing their progress through the program.
• Michael Camp, Center for Entreprenuership, Fisher College of Business, camp_1 AT fisher.osu.edu
  Dr. Camp is the Academic Director, Center for Entrepreneurship, in the Fisher College of Business. He is one of the key members of the NEWPATH team and involved with many aspects of the program, especially the e-practicum. Dr. Camp was also instrumental in creating the e-minor program.
• Rajiv Ramnath, Computer Science and Engineering, ramnath AT cse.ohio-state.edu
  Dr. Ramnath is Director of Practice, Collaborative for Enterprise Transformation and Innovation (CETI). He is one of the key members of the NEWPATH team and involved with many aspects of the program, especially the e-practicum; and with the CSE capstone design courses which play a key role in the NEWPATH program.
• Bruce Weide, Computer Science and Engineering, weide AT cse.ohio-state.edu
  Dr. Weide is Associate Chair, CSE Department. His interests are in Software Engineering and CS education. He is involved with all aspects of NEWPATH from choosing students for the program, to overseeing their progress through the program.
• Neelam Soundarajan, Computer Science and Engineering, neelam AT cse.ohio-state.edu
  Dr. Soundarajan's interests are in Software Engineering and CS education, especially issues related to program assessment and evaluation. He is involved with various aspects of NEWPATH from choosing students for the program, to overseeing their progress through the program.
• Eylem Ekici, Electrical and Computer Engineering, ekici.2 AT osu.edu
  Dr. Ekici's areas of interest include computer networks, including wireless systems, and communication protocols. He is responsible for advising and monitoring progress of ECE majors who are in the NEWPATH program.
• Waleed Muhanna, Fisher College of Business, muhanna.1 AT osu.edu
  Dr. Muhanna's interests include information systems and e-commerce. He is responsible for advising and monitoring progress of BS-BA majors who are in the NEWPATH program.
• Han-Wei Shen, Computer Science and Engineering, hwshen AT cse.ohio-state.edu
  Dr. Shen's interests are primarily in Computer Graphics. He is responsible for advising and monitoring progress of CSE majors who are in the NEWPATH program.
• Dong Xuan, Computer Science and Engineering, xuan AT cse.ohio-state.edu
  Dr. Xuan's interests are primarily in computer networks, including cyber security. He is responsible for advising and monitoring progress of CSE majors who are in the NEWPATH program.
