Under Semesters...
OSU will be converting the academic calendar from quarters to semesters in summer 2012. All the other information on this page applies to the current quarter-based program. Information about the proposed semester program and the transition plan for current students is available this page.
Important note: The requirements for the BS-CIS program were revised in late Sp '07. The requirements described in the curriculum page below applies to BS-CIS students who entered OSU as freshmen in Summer '07 or later. If you entered OSU before Summer '07, you must follow the older curriculum. If you entered OSU as a transfer student in Summer '07 or later, please consult with one of the advisors in the Advising Office. The main changes in this newer curriculum compared with the older one are revisions in the GEC requirements (as specified by the new GEC requirements applicable to all students in the Arts and Science College), the requirement of a capstone design course, and the requirement of CSE 601 as a required course. There are also some changes in the structure of the technical elective options. Note also that the minimum total number of hours for the degree in this curriculum is 181 hours (compared to 191 in the previous curriculum).
The BS CIS program (through the College of Arts and Science) offers students a broad, liberal education in the physical sciences, mathematics, and humanities, along with intensive study in computer science.
Complete information about the program is available in the following pages:
- Program Objectives and Outcomes (Draft)
- Prerequisites for admission to the major;
- Curriculum;
- Bingo sheet (pdf) (a checklist of course
requirements that you may use to ensure that you have met, or will meet by
the time of graduation, all curricular requirements of the BS CIS program).
If you joined OSU before Summer '07, please use this bingo sheet: (pdf). - Graduation requirements and procedures.
Students may access their Degree Audit Report (DAR) on-line at the University Registrar's site. The DAR is an up-to-date list of courses completed toward the degree and courses yet-to-be taken. The Advising Report available at the same site may also be useful.
The BS-CIS program has not sought accreditation and is not accredited by a commission of ABET, Inc.
