(May 2012)
As of Spring 2012, all students who have an overall GPA of 2.0 or above, have completed the prerequisite courses are eligible for admission to the CIS/CSE majors. However, given the increase in demand for the majors, students who apply for admission to the major starting in January 2013 will be required to have a minimum GPA of 2.5. All current pre-majors were informed of this by the Advising Office in Dec. 2011. The GPA requirement will be adjusted each year, based on the demand for the majors and the faculty strength. Please see the enrollment limits page for further details. Questions about this should be directed to the Advising Office. -

(Dec. 1, 2006) A new technical elective option on Information
and Computation Assurance (ICA) is now available for both CSE and
CIS majors. Over the last few years, ICA-related issues from privacy
concerns of individuals to concerns of private businesses interested in
protecting trade and other secrets, as well as national security
considerations, have become increasingly important. The ICA option is
tailored to meet the needs of students interested in this area.
Another important change is the availability of the new Individualized Option for both CSE and CIS majors. This option will allow students to choose, depending on their interests and in close consultation with their faculty advisors, an appropriate group of CSE and non-CSE courses for their technical electives.
For detailed descriptions, please see the appropriate curriculum pages or talk to the Advising Office.
- (March 1, 2006) Change in GPA for admission to the CSE and CIS
majors: Effective immediately, the minimum CPHR for
admission to the CSE and CIS
majors is 2.0. All other requirements for admission to
the major are unchanged.
If you are a pre-major and have fulfilled all the other requirements for
admission (or will do so this quarter) and have at least a 2.0 GPA, please
visit the CSE Department's Undergrad Advising Office to apply for the CSE or
CIS major.
