Starting XEmacs


Your environment should be set up to automatically invoke XEmacs when you login to a CSE workstation. This is approximately what your new XEmacs window will look like:

If this window DOES NOT appear after you login, then you may want to make sure that your environment is set up properly.

Ordinarily, there is no reason to quit XEmacs; you should just keep it running as long as you are logged in. If you do quit XEmacs, however, you can restart it by typing emacs & in an X terminal or console window. (The '&' runs XEmacs in the background leaving your xterm window free to do other things.) You can also start XEmacs by clicking on the Front Panel "Terminal Control" icon and then selecting XEmacs from the "Personal Applications" menu that pops up:
