Abstract
--------

This tutorial is organized into 4 chapters, each consisting of 6 to 11 papers.
Additional references are appended at the end of each chapter's introduction
to provide further materials for interested readers.
In order to be able to evaluate the performance of any system, a thorough
knowledge of the system and its operation is essential.
Chapter 1 introduces various parallel architectures existing in the market.
Multiprocessor organizations are explained in terms of their
interconnections and operational principles.
The efficiency of the programming environment is important to parallel system
performance evaluation.
Representative multiprocessor programming software and languages are
also overviewed in Chapter 1.
Chapter 2 introduces techniques for multiprocessor performance evaluation,
based on measurement, analysis,
simulation and visualization. Examples and applicability of these techniques
for general multiprocessor systems are discussed.
Performance measurement and evaluation for
large scale shared-memory and message-passing MIMD parallel computer systems
are presented in Chapters 3 and 4 respectively.
