Research Interests:

My main research interests in computer science lie in systems software. I am very interested in operating systems, compilers, and networking, as well as many other areas of applying similar design principles to achieve greater performance and usability.

At some point in the future, I would like to work on a system for run-time inlining, optimization, and possibly recompilation of code through the dynamic linker. Research in dynamic compilation in Java has made tremendous breakthroughs. I would like to bring these benefits to a language-neutral environment where existing code not written to take advantage of such tools could enjoy the benefits of such tools at runtime.

I am currently planning to attend graduate school to pursue an M.S. or Ph.D. degree, perhaps with a systems or performance analysis specialization

Current Projects:

RESOLVE/C++ "lint"

In the current RESOLVE/C++ environment, programmers compile RESOLVE code with an ordinary C++ compiler. While flexible, this approach has some problems, specifically error messages that are not in RESOLVE syntax and not reporting errors for code that violates RESOLVE syntax while being valid in the C++ grammar. This project attempts to resolve these problems by implementing a separate parser to report such errors in a clear manner easily understood by those who know RESOLVE/C++ but not ordinary C++. It will eventually be run before the compiler and attempt to ensure that a report of valid code by the parser will result in code that will be compiled by the C++ compiler with no errors or warnings and that meets RESOLVE rules.

You can download my current code, derivative of a parser by Paulo Bucci, here: RCPP.g. It requires ANTLR and the Java JDK to compile/run. (I would put this in my project directory but I no longer own it...)
