* OSU's Computer Science and Engineering department was the recipient of 2 NSF ITR awards in the 2004 competition; this competitive program only funded 6% of all applications.
NSF Awards ITR Award*
A team of electrical engineers, computer scientists,
and linguists working on a project titled, "Automatic Speech
Attribute Transcription (ASAT)" were awarded $1. 73M. This
is a multi-site, multi-disciplinary grant involves Ohio State,
Georgia Tech, and Rutgers University, with GaTech taking the
lead. Chin-Hui Lee (Georgia Tech, Electrical and Computer Engineering)
is the coordinator for the project; Mark Clements (GaTech ECE)
and Biing-Hwang Juang (GaTech ECE) complete the GaTech team.
Eric Fosler-Lussier
(OSU, CSE) heads the OSU contingent, which includes Keith
Johnson (OSU Linguistics). Lawrence Rabiner (Rutgers, Center
for Advanced Information Processing (CAIP)) leads the Rutgers
component, which also includes Sorin Dusan (Rutgers/CAIP).
Research Team wins NSF Award*
A multi-disciplinary team of OSU researchers was
recently awarded $1.3M from the National Science Foundation
to investigate the design and development of an intelligent
video surveillance system. The team consists of Richard Parent,
James Davis,
and Raghu
Macharaju from the Dept. of Computer Science, David
Woods from the Institute for Ergonomics, and Alan
Murray from the Dept. of Geography.
Intel Awards Dr. D. K. Panda
Dr.
D. K. Panda received an award from Intel® Advanced Computing
Center for his work in "Advanced Message Passing Algorithms
for RDMA-enabled Interconnects." Dr. Panda received this
award in recognition of his "dedication to developing innovative
ideas for emerging technologies."
Intel Center director Wilfred Pinfold saya, "The
Intel Advanced Computing Center is focused on accelerating innovation
in mainstream, or volume, computer technologies by working with
leading commercial and academic partners to develop technologies
once limited to proprietary high-performance computing systems."
