with access to CD R/W drives. The course will be taught using Windows

Logins:
All students taking CS& E 200 will be provided with a CS&
E Department windows account. This account will have a login id
based upon your name. Logins will be posted during the first week
of class. This login is different from your University (UTS) e-mail
address. Registered students who do not have a login must contact
the Course Coordinator or lecturer prior to the first lab. You will
not be able to do your assignment in lab otherwise. You will need
to login every time you use the CS& E Department network system,
and when you leave you will need to logoff. Make sure you do not
misplace your login id and password. If you forget your password,
go the S.O.C. Lab on the eighth floor of Dreese Labs to have your
password reset.
Students must also have
an active university e-mail account. If you do not already have
an active e-mail account or do not know your password contact UTS
(688-help or Baker Engineering Systems 5th floor) for assistance
prior to lab 1.

Personal
Directory Space
The CS& E Department account provides a home directory, the
Z: drive. This is your personal file space. This contains a number
of directories and files set up by the department (needed for defaults,
etc.) Do not remove or move any of these files! If you remove any
of these files or directories, your account may not work properly.
There is a basic directory structure provided. The Microsoft Office
applications will, by default, store documents to the Z:\Windows\Personal\
directory. Class files which you will need to do your labs can be
found on Carmen.

Submitting
Your Lab Files:
Lab Assignments will be submitted electronically via the CS&
E Submit Tool and this can only be done from one of our network
computers. If an assignments instructions state that it must
be "submitted", assignments sent via e-mail will not be
accepted.
CS& E 200 Labs:Our
labs are located in Baker Engineering Systems Room 310. Open lab
hours are also available in Caldwell 112. For open hours go to http://www.cse.ohio-state.edu/help_pages/labs.html

Working
From Other Computer Systems:
Labs will require additional
hours than just closed lab times. Those additional hours needed
to complete the Pre-lab assignments may be spent in our labs during
available times (see above). In addition you can also work on the
assignments from other locations. If you have the Office 2007 available
to you, and wish to work on assignments outside of the CS& E
Department labs you must do the following:
- Obtain any files you
need via Carmen
- E-mail your completed
work back to your University e-mail address as an attachment or
burn a CD and bring it with you to lab. Memory sticks/Flash drives
may also be used - please check with the lab staff.
- Retreive the file
in a CS& E lab and save it to your personal directory for
submission.
- Use the submit tool
to submit the file.
- Note - please make
sure to transfer files in advance of class. If for some reason
the file cannot be read (or is not in your Inbox) you will not
be given credit for the work. Late labs will not be accepted due
to mail server problems, or problems with data transmission.
If you have previous
versions of MS Office, you may download the Microsoft Office Compatibility
Pack from here.
The Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack allows you to open and save
Excel, Word, and PowerPoint 2007 files using Office XP or 2003.
Access 2007 files, however cannot be opened in
previous versions. In either case, you must
ensure that your files are able to be opened on our system
for grading; otherwise you will not receive credit.

Important note: DO NOT install software of any kind on the
CS& E Department system. This includes downloading Netscape
plug-ins! The current policy allows the system staff to take action
which includes the removal of your account for infringement of this
rule. (Please realize that you cannot do your lab assignments if
you do not have a CS& E Department account.) If you know of
any software which you feel would improve the quality of this course,
you may make a request to have it installed through the course coordinator.
Always logoff from your machine when you complete your work
