Personal Web Space
OSU has a formal service offering for personal web pages. Please visit the U.OSU web site for details. The description of the service from their page:
What is it?
U.OSU provides web space to support professional and educational activities at The Ohio State University. Students, faculty and staff use U.OSU.EDU to share independent work, host course assignments, enhance project visibility, communicate within groups, and represent organizations.
The CSE specific site that used to serve similar pages has been placed into "legacy mode". Existing pages will continue to be served but no new users will have the ability to create new pages. Existing users are encouraged to migrate their sites to U.OSU.
The following instructions only apply to those who already have access to the legacy service.
Any user of the CSE legacy service may maintain their own webpage located at cse-webedit.coeit.osu.edu.
In order to access your Web Space Directory you will need to either ssh or sftp to cse-webedit.coeit.osu.edu. Below you will find instructions on how to connect to the Web Space Directory using Filezilla:
Step 1: Launch Filezilla You Can launch Filezilla by searching for the application on your windows device Step 2: Connect to cse-webedit.coeit.osu.edu Once Filezilla is launched you will setup your connection with the following settings (excluding the quotation marks) Host: cse-webedit.coeit.osu.edu Username: name.# Password: University Password Port: 22 To save the settings and launch the connection, click the “Quickconnect” button You will receive a pop-up windows asking you to trust the connection and confirm your RSA fingerprint, click “OK” to continue Step 3: Verify connection is successful If the connection was made successfully you will see two file explorers, one for your “Local Site”, the workstation you are logged into, and one for “Remote Site”, the CSE Web Space Directory
Once connected to the Web Space Directory, the user may place world readable HTML files and world readable/executable subfolders in that folder. URL's to view a user's webpage take the form
http://web.cse.ohio-state.edu/~username/path/to/file.html
Any index.html file placed in a folder will be loaded automatically when the URL for the folder is requested. For example, the URL
http://web.cse.ohio-state.edu/~jsmith
automatically loads the index.html file in jsmith's Web Space Directory. It is recommended that users do create an index.html file in their root Web Space Directory so that our automated software will add them to the list of users with a readable homepage.
