CSE Timesheet Quick Start Guide

In order to use the CSE Timesheet system, you will need to get a digital certificate and have it verified by the CSE Department. This digital certificate will identify you to the CSE Timesheet system. You will need your CSE account to complete this step. Documentation on how to generate a certificate and have it verified will be given to you by the HR specialist or your manager when you are hired.

Once you have created a digital signature and had it verified you are ready to use the CSE Timesheet system. You will enter the hours you have worked for the department by using a program called 'timesheet'. It is available on both the Unix and Windows systems within the CSE department. The only difference in running the timesheet program between these two systems is the startup.

On Unix:

On Windows:

After you have entered your login and password, a splash screen will appear. The splash screen is displayed while the program is connecting to the central server and authenticating your session. It will take approximately 30-40 seconds for this connection to be completed. The splash screen will then disappear and within a few the timesheet application will startup.

If you have not yet created a timesheet for the current pay period, a dialog box will appear which says "There is no timesheet for the current pay period. Would you like to create one?" Click the 'Yes' button to create a new timesheet.

A new dialog box appears which allows you to specify the year, pay period and position for which you would like to create a timesheet. The year and pay period values will default to the current year and pay period. The postion selection is a drop down list from which you can choose from any of the positions you may hold within the CSE department. Select the appropriate year, pay period and position and then click 'OK'.

The main timesheet application window will appear. If using the 'checkin' program is required by your manager, then your checkin times will already appear in the timesheet. Otherwise, you will need to enter your times for each week, day, and each work session within each day. When you are sure that the times are correct, check the 'Errors' tab to be sure, you can sign digitially sign the timesheet. By clicking on the 'sign' icon, or selecting 'Actions->Sign' from the timesheet menu, you certify that you have performed services for the CSE department on the dates and during the hours indicated on your timesheet.

Once you have signed the timesheet, it is ready for signing by your manager. The timesheet is automatically routed electronically to your manager. It does not need to be printed and passed on for manual signature. If you would like to check the status of your timesheet at any time you can click on the 'Info' tab and review the signing history.
