Sayantan was born in "The City of Joy" Calcutta and was raised in New Delhi, India. He did his undergraduate studies in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (with Honors) at the Regional Engineering College, Calicut (now, re-christened as the National Institute of Technology). Sayantan's first job was at Sun Microsystems, where he spent close to a year as a part of the iPlanet Messaging server group. After his stint at Sun, he joined Department of Computer Science at The Ohio State University as a PhD student. He is now in the fifth year of the PhD program. Sayantan works with Dr. D. K. Panda in the Network-Based Computing Laboratory. Specifically, he works on the MPI over InfiniBand (MVAPICH) project. Software developed as a part of his PhD research is being used at more than 355 top computing sites all over the world and used for some of the Top 500 fastest computers in the world. He was a summer intern for Intel Corp during Summer'05 and for MPICH2 group (Argonne National Laboratory) during Summer'06.
